Follow these tips to hel save water

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency urges users to be logical about saving and protecting water supplies.

1. More water is used in the bathroom than any other place in the home.

Action: Turn off water while brushing teeth and shaving, install low-flow toilets, shower heads and faucet aerators. Doing so will reduce water bills.

2. There are more people today using the same amount of water we had 100 years ago.

Action: Don’t waste water.

3. A dripping faucet can waste up to 2,000 gallons of water a year. A leaky toilet can waste as much as 200 gallons of water a day.

Action: Check plumbing and repair any leaks as soon as possible.

4. Lead in household plumbing can get into water.

Action: Find out if pipes are lead or if lead solder was used to connect the pipes. If there’s lead in the plumbing system, let the water run until it’s cold if using water for drinking or cooking. Never use water from the hot tap for cooking or drinking.

5. What’s dumped on the ground, poured down the drain or tossed in the trash can pollute the sources of drinking water.

Action: Take used motor oil and other automotive fluid to a service center that recycles them. Auto batteries should be recycled. Take leftover paint, solvents and toxic household products to special collection centers.
